Soft mobility in Monaco
To encourage walking (with its 2km², everything in Monaco is within walking distance), the Principality has :
- 80 public lifts
- 37 escalators
- 8 travelators
For bicycle enthusiasts, MonaBike is the electric bike hire system. No fewer than 390 electrically-assisted bicycles are available throughout Monaco, giving everyone the chance to enjoy a unique experience. With a range of 60 kilometres, they can be recharged at one of the Principality's 42 stations.
Hybrid buses
The CAM (Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco) offers efficient, environmentally-friendly transport. The buses run on Diester, a biodiesel that reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Since 2016, 22 hybrid buses have been deployed.
Mobee is a self-service car hire service available in the city whenever you want, thanks to a prepaid card system. The fleet is made up of 5- and 2-seater vehicles.
A fun and environmentally-friendly example, the boat bus which crosses the harbour and links Monaco-Ville and the Casino is electric and runs on solar energy.

APPS TO PLAY AROUND WITH INTERMODALITY**
Launched in 2021, Monapass is an all-in-one application. It allows commuters, tourists and inner-city users to concentrate all their mobility passes (bus, Monabike electric bikes, on-street parking) on their phone.
Citymapper is a free mobile application that guides users through their journeys in real time. Suggested itineraries combine walking, self-service electric bikes, bus, boat-bus, train, car-sharing and even helicopter. It also provides real-time availability of Monaco's public car parks.
The brochure Monaco Smart presents all the facilities the Principality has to offer for getting around. The booklet includes pedestrian links, both mechanised and non-mechanised, by district, electrically assisted bicycle stations and public transport serving the Principality.
Tourist attractions and health and hospital centres are also included to make getting around easier.

CHARGING YOUR ELECTRIC VEHICLE
The Monte-Carlo Bay Supercharger
Since May 2019, the Monte-Carlo Bay hotel has been equipped with a super charger for electric vehicles. The charger's technology enables a battery to be fully charged in 20 to 30 minutes, compared with several hours normally required. Traditionally located close to major roads, its position in the city is unique. The responsible commitment goes even further, as the energy used for this equipment comes from solar panels installed on the roof of the hotel.
Monaco On
Monaco On kiosks are free, efficient, easily identifiable thanks to their yellow colour and require no subscription. They are veritable electric service stations grouping together several charging points to make recharging electric vehicles even more efficient and accessible to as many people as possible. They are easily identifiable thanks to their bright yellow cladding.
SOME EVENTS ORGANISED IN MONACO IN CONNECTION WITH SOFT MOBILITY...
Monaco Energy Boat Challenge
Organised since 2014 by the Yacht Club de Monaco in collaboration with the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge competition is unique in the world.
More than a century after its first international motorboat meetings launched in 1904, the Yacht Club de Monaco is reviving a tradition by giving free rein to the creativity of young engineers combined with the experience of industrialists. Their aim is to develop an alternative to the traditional propulsion system, in order to imagine and optimise the different modes of propulsion for the Yachting of tomorrow, using exclusively clean energy sources. It's a real technological challenge, designed to meet the energy challenges facing the shipbuilding and yachting industries, as well as the prerogatives of support and sustainable development.
Monaco eRallye
A genuine road race, reserved for 100% electric vehicles, without the use of extenders, and 100% Hydrogen. This regularity event has become very popular with car manufacturers and tuners, who have come to demonstrate the technological and avant-garde potential of their vehicles in real-life conditions. It is the successor to the Rallye de Monte-Carlo des Véhicules Electriques, which has been running since 1995. By definition, the aim of the E-Rally is to promote new automotive technologies designed to emit the lowest possible quantities of pollutants, fine particles and CO2. They also aim to encourage drivers to adopt eco-responsible driving, with priority given to environmental protection and the transition of the transport sector through the use of electricity as a source of energy for vehicle propulsion.
Monaco ePrix
A real Grand Prix atmosphere but in a 100% electric version for this event, which was held for the first time in Monaco in 2015. Formula E and technology have evolved to become more powerful and more autonomous! For the first time this year, the single-seaters were able to race on the entire F1 circuit (until last year, only the lower part of the circuit was used by the Formula E cars). Alongside the event, an "E Village" showcased the latest developments and innovations from the car manufacturers, while a "gaming zone" offered the chance to practise driving on a simulator... Note that Formula E is the only sport in the world where fans can influence the outcome of the race by voting for their favourite driver and giving him or her extra performance during the race. That's Fan Boost! The Monaco ePrix is an event counting towards the Formula E International Championship (FIA).
EVER
Since 2006, EVER Monaco has been a vehicle for exhibition and exchange around two key themes: sustainable mobility and renewable energies. Two-wheelers and private cars, as well as public and industrial transport, are at the heart of the debates, but the event is also aimed at energy companies, those involved in sustainable housing, and all the companies involved in building a low-carbon future.
