The Destination implements a concrete action plan

Following the Sustainable Tourism White Paper which takes stock of the tourism sector, the destination has set up a three-year action plan based on five development priorities:

  • Raise awareness, train, involve and strengthen the skills of players and partners by sharing best practice with leisure and business visitors;
  • Communicating and improving visibility by making the offer more coherent with customers before, during and after their stay;
  • Controlling the destination's environmental impact by working with partners to find solutions to reduce the impact of tourism (carbon impact, consumption of resources, reducing waste and food wastage);
  • Strengthen tourism for all and by all by promoting equity among stakeholders;
  • Measure actions in a concrete way to assess the environmental impact and highlight the contribution of tourism to the Monegasque economy.

Helping to reduce the carbon footprint of visitors and events

In an international context where tourism accounts for 8% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions each year, with a risk of a 25% increase by 2030 if corrective action is not taken, the Monaco Government Tourist and Convention Authority (MGTCA) is making its contribution through concrete actions. With the support of the Mission pour la Transition Energétique , the MGTCA is making available two educational tools enabling visitors and event organisers to estimate their carbon impact in the Principality in just a few minutes. They are designed to be simple and fun to use, with practical advice throughout the questionnaire and at the end of the assessment, where alternative solutions adapted to Monaco are suggested.

In addition, the Principality has defined a specific action plan for the destination, following on from its commitment to the Glasgow Declaration , to accelerate the decarbonisation of the tourism sector and strengthen resilience in the face of climate challenges.
