Did you know?
The creation of the Casino de Monte-Carlo in 1863 is the story of a Prince, a man... but above all a love story. In the second half of the 19th century, the Principality experienced rapid growth and increasing prosperity under the impetus of Prince Charles III and François Blanc. Marie Blanc, the businessman's wife, played a key role in the development and embellishment of Monte Carlo. She developed the now legendary cellars of the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, took part in the Vienna Universal Exhibition, created the "Poteries de Monaco" and built the Opéra Garnier. Marie Blanc played a major role in the Principality's cultural and artistic influence.
The Princess Grace suite and the Prince Rainier III suite at the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo echo an exceptional story. After marrying in 1956 in the heart of this palace, the princely couple celebrated their 20th anniversary together in the hotel's cellars. These two rooms are now exceptional showcases overlooking the Mediterranean at the top of the hotel, and promise an unforgettable journey. Just like love, isn't it?
"Every woman is an eternal rose in this world" is surely the founding adage of the Princess Grace Rose Garden, opened in 1984 by Prince Rainier III as a tribute to his wife Grace Kelly. When it came to selecting the most beautiful rosebushes, the Prince's Palace was inundated with hundreds of offers from all over the world, and the 315 varieties were chosen personally by the Sovereign.
The fragrance of romance has been wafting over the Principality for more than half a century. In April 1956, Prince Rainier III married the American actress Grace Kelly, an event that captured the hearts of 30 million television viewers and 100,000 visitors to Monaco during the week of festivities. 600 guests, celebrities - including Alfred Hitchcock, master of suspense and the bride's best man - and crowned heads attended this first royal wedding to be broadcast live on television, and it certainly marked its era. American households were also able to experience the wedding... with a delay of a few days: in order to broadcast the images on mondovision, the films were boxed and flown to the United States!
