Sustainable gastronomy

Committed Shops & Restaurants

To help restaurant owners make the transition to a greener environment, the Environment Department has launched the Commerce & Restaurant Engagé label, designed to promote good practice and encourage the reduction of plastics, waste sorting and the fight against waste.

Green Globe

As part of its drive to promote responsible gastronomy, many of the Principality's key players have now been awarded Green Globe certification. This certification programme, which is recognised in the travel industry, uses almost 300 indicators to assess the establishments' approach to sustainable development.

Terrae

For years, Terrae 's mission has been to establish ecological urban agriculture throughout the city. The company, founded by Jessica Sbaraglia, designs, develops and maintains organic vegetable gardens in the open ground or on balconies and rooftops in Monaco and across Europe. The planted areas respect the values of organic farming and the produce is intended for local consumption: for canteens, markets, restaurants, private individuals... All year round, Terrae works to raise awareness.

Mr Goodfish

At the same time, Monaco is following the Mr Goodfish programme, which aims to raise awareness throughout the fishing industry of the need for more responsible consumption of seafood. Numerous organisations have signed up to the programme, from wholesalers and fishmongers to schools, restaurants and hotels.

La Petite Boîte

As part of its "Monaco s'engage contre le gaspillage" initiative, customers can ask partner restaurants La Petite Boîte to take away their unfinished meal. By recovering what is not consumed, restaurant owners and customers are helping to improve waste management.

MaConsigne

With MaConsigne, the Monegasque Government is pursuing its commitment to a policy of "zero single-use plastic by 2030". The principle is simple: just download the MaConsigne application, order your meal from your restaurant, and return your returnable container to the nearest collection point.
