The Nouveau Musée National de Monaco presents the "CACTUS" exhibition

Curated by Marc Jeanson and Laurent Le Bon, with a scenography by Jasmin Oezcebi, "Cactus" offers a dual perspective, botanical and artistic, on these plants.

Cacti intrigue as much as they fascinate, with their singular shapes, spiny or velvety textures, and muted or vibrant colours. Symbols of resistance and adaptation, they made their way to the West through the great scientific expeditions and the rise of horticulture in the 19th century, establishing themselves in botanical gardens and prestigious collections, particularly on the Riviera, to which the exhibition pays special tribute through over 200 works brought together for the occasion: botanical treasures, archives, paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, installations, film extracts, design objects...

True plant muses, cacti and succulents have fed the imagination of artists, architects and designers. Their singular aesthetic has inspired the most daring forms - from surrealism to pop design. "Cactus" reveals their multiple interpretations through a rich corpus of works: a film by Eisenstein, a cult coat rack by Gufram, and an iPad drawing by David Hockney, to name but a few.

The exhibition will also take over the gardens of the Villa Sauber, which have been transformed into a spectacular cactus garden with the help of the Monaco Exotic Garden.
