Columbus Monte-Carlo - A simple gesture, a multiple impact

Columbus Monte-Carlo, Curio Collection by Hilton, is launching an eco-responsible initiative in partnership with the Flavien Foundation: mobilising the Principality's restaurateurs to collect corks for recycling in support of the FLAVIEN Foundation, which is committed to the fight against paediatric cancers.

As part of its long-standing commitment to social responsibility, the hotel is now initiating a unique cork collection operation in the Principality's restaurants.

According to Eva Ayme, Talent & Culture Manager, who initiated the project, the aim is twofold: to reduce the environmental footprint of the hotel and restaurant sector and to support the Flavien Foundation, a recognised player in the fight against paediatric cancers.

Who is involved?

This initiative is being orchestrated by Columbus Monte-Carlo, in aid of the Flavien Foundation, which has been recognised as a public utility since 2017 and is committed to research into rare paediatric cancers, as well as supporting the families affected.

Many restaurants, including Norma, Chez Pierre, Les Perles de Monaco, Graziella, Bellavita and El Mercado by 3 Tapas, have already signed up to this cause and our collective mission, and we hope that many more will join us.

How is this being organised?

Restaurants are being asked to set up a cork collection point. These corks will then be collected every 15 days and recycled via a specialised channel. All proceeds from the recycling will be donated to the Flavien Foundation.

The collection began throughout the Principality at the beginning of 2025.

Why is this important?

Because a discarded cork is waste, but a recycled cork can become a gesture of life. This project raises awareness of the need to preserve natural resources, while making a tangible contribution to a medical and human cause. The work carried out has led to a promising clinical trial currently underway (MEPENDAX, in France). It's also an opportunity for the participating establishments to become involved in a meaningful, committed initiative that is shared by a wide audience.
