Columbus Hotel Monte-Carlo – A simple gesture, a far-reaching impact
Columbus Monte-Carlo, Curio Collection by Hilton, is launching an eco-friendly initiative in partnership with the Flavien Foundation: mobilising the Principality’s restaurateurs to collect corks for recycling, in support of the Flavien Foundation, which is committed to the fight against childhood cancers.
With a long-standing commitment to corporate social responsibility, the hotel is now spearheading a unique campaign to collect corks from restaurants across the Principality.
According to Eva Ayme, Talent & Culture Manager and the driving force behind the project, the aim is twofold: to reduce the environmental footprint of the hospitality sector and to support the Flavien Foundation, a recognised player in the fight against childhood cancers.
Who is involved?
This initiative is organised by Columbus Monte-Carlo, in aid of the Flavien Foundation, which has been recognised as a public utility since 2017 and is committed to research into rare paediatric cancers, as well as supporting affected families.
Many restaurants, such as Norma, Chez Pierre, Les Perles de Monaco, Graziella, Bellavita and El Mercado by 3 Tapas, have already signed up to this cause and our collective mission, and we hope that many more will join us.
How does it work?
Restaurants are being asked to set up a collection point for corks. These corks will then be collected every fortnight and recycled via a specialist channel. All proceeds generated by the recycling will be donated to the Flavien Foundation.
The collection began across the Principality at the start of 2025.
Why is this important?
Because a discarded cork is waste, but a recycled cork can become a lifesaving act. This project raises awareness of the need to preserve natural resources, whilst making a tangible contribution to a medical and humanitarian cause. The work carried out has led to a promising clinical trial currently underway (MEPENDAX, in France). It is also an opportunity for participating establishments to be part of a meaningful, committed initiative that is supported by a wide audience.
